Marie Mulvihill, Executive Director, announced that the United Way of Mifflin-Juniata has successfully completed all of the United Way of America's national membership requirements satisfactorily and by their respective due dates. The annual certification process includes completing the Membership Requirements Certification, Membership Investment, and a survey of Total Resources Generated (a survey that captures the full extent of a community's resource development efforts during the year). Over an above the annual requirements, United Way of Mifflin-Juniata will complete an organizational self-assessment in 2009 as part of this process.
"It is important for us to maintain a high standard of accountability, and this is part of the process to confirm that our operations are transparent and meet or exceed United Way membership criteria requirements," stated Marie Mulvihill, Executive Director.
The board of the United Way of Mifflin-Juniata reviewed and approved the Membership Requirements Certification on June 10, 2009. The certification mandates completion of 13 requirements for United Way of America membership along with verification of the status of 47 indicators that a United Way demonstrates the intent of the membership requirements (as examples, conflict of interest policies, a minimum of quarterly board meetings).
"All United Ways must meet the highest standards and verify on paper that they have conformed to the requirements of membership in the United Way system," said Brian Gallagher, president and CEO, United Way. "We applaud the United Way of Mifflin-Juniata's commitment to accountability and, importantly, their continued efforts to support work in their community which improves lives and advances the common good for all people."
As in integral part of Mifflin and Juniata counties, United Way improves lives by looking at the needs in our community and finding ways to address those needs. Fund raising is a strategy United Way uses to build our community by putting local contributions to use where the benefit will be the greatest. Along with funds raised during the annual campaign, United Way seeks out partnerships and collaborations that maximize local resources.
The United Way of Mifflin-Juniata is part of a worldwide network in 46 countries and territories, including 1,277 local organizations in the United States. Each local United Way must complete United Way of America's requirements annually in order to retain its United Way of America membership.
