It's Never Too Late To Give - Please Help the United Way of Mifflin-Juniata!

As the worst recession in a generation mires on, United Way of Mifflin-Juniata raised their goal in order to meet increasing demands on services in our local area. The United Way of Mifflin-Juniata is appealing to the community for help staving off a major shortfall for its 2010 campaign which ends March 15.

At the time of this report, the United Way is at 75% of the $596,500 goal or $447,375. "We are a long way from where we need to be, and time is running out," said Marie Mulvihill, Executive Director. "We are so grateful to the people and businesses who have given so far - they are being as generous as they can," she added. "Now we are appealing to those who haven't given yet to make a contribution before March 15."

"What this means to our community is that help may not be available at a time when help is needed the most," said Dick Calkins, Mifflin County Campaign co-ambassador. He sited two local events, the Elsesser Fire and the Lewistown Hotel, where significant numbers of people were displaced due to circumstances beyond their control, but whose needs were met almost immediately by local agencies providing services because of United Way dollars. Linda Calkins, Mifflin County Campaign co-ambassador added, "If the campaign falls short, the United Way partner agencies will see a drastic reduction in funding. Programs that have a real impact on local people's lives will lose vital funding, most of which already are stretched to the limit."

"Our goal is ambitious but we believe that we have the kind of community in which we all want to live. If you can invest a little or lot, this is your opportunity to make your impact," stressed Mark Partner, Juniata County Campaign Ambassador. "Give because it makes you feel good," Partner said. "Do it because it's the right thing to do, or because you itemize your tax deductions, or for whatever other reason. Just give. Please."

Donations can be made to the United Way of Mifflin-Juniata, 13 East Third Street, Lewistown, PA, 17044. Phone: (717) 248-9636. or online at www.mjunitedway.org

United Way will hold the Annual Campaign Celebration on March 25, 2010 at which time the final results will be reported to the community. All community members are invited. Reservations are required. The celebration will be held at 6pm at the Central Juniata EMS, Mifflintown. A roast beef/roast chicken dinner catered by Bread of Life, will be served for $18.00 per person. Please make reservations with the United Way office by noon March 19th at 248-9636.
