SB6 Initiatives

Kindergarten Transition

Transition involves the process of movement or change from one environment to another. How transitions into kindergarten are managed has the potential to impact their later school careers. For children it means adjusting to a new setting, learning a new set of rules and behaviors, adjusting to new peer groups and teachers. For parents it is learning about and adjusting to school district policies, meeting and communicating with teachers, and sharing information and records about their children. Both Mifflin and Juniata Counties have Transition Teams that are working to make transition smooth for both children and families. More information.

WPSU Partnership

In 2007 WPSU-TV entered into a 3 year partnership with Success By 6 to implement their PBS KIDS Raising Readers initiative in Mifflin and Juniata Counties. The initiative uses research-based, dynamic and entertaining PBS KIDS programs and related multi-media content, to help meet the literacy needs of children ages 2-8.
This partnership has brought several opportunities for families and early childhood programs in Mifflin and Juniata Counties to participate in literacy based activities such as

  • SUPER WHY! Camp-Kindergarten readiness camp
  • PBS classroom literacy activities in the early childhood program
  • PBS Island and Electric Company Literacy programs in kindergarten and after school programs. More information.

Read Across The Counties

Success By 6 is proud to participate in Pennsylvania’s “One Book, every Young child” program held each April. Our local initiative “Read Across the Counties”, reaches over 35 early childhood classrooms in Mifflin and Juniata counties. SB6 invites community leaders to read to the children in an effort to promote the value and benefits of reading. Read across the Counties is an experience enjoyed by the children and adults alike.

Parent Information Newsletter

SB6 produces and distributes over 5,000 Parent Information newsletters quarterly. News letters are distributed through the school districts, early childhood programs, head start and human service agencies.

Dental Outreach

SB6 celebrates National Children’s Dental Health month in February by educating children ages 3 to 5 in both Mifflin and Juniata counties. Interactive presentations are held to share information about the importance of having good oral health habits at a very young age. Presentations include; what to expect when visiting the dentist, the proper way to brush and floss and how to choose healthy foods to keep your teeth healthy.

Professional Development

Success By 6 provides high quality professional development opportunities for the early childhood community in Mifflin and Juniata Counties through a grant from the Central Region Key/OCDEL. All trainings meet PQAS requirements and are posted on the PA Keys website calendar.

Infant/Toddler Group

The Infant/toddler Group was formed in 2009 to give agencies and programs that serve birth to 3 children an opportunity to network and collaborate.
