In November, a family of four reached out to Juniata Valley Council, Boy Scouts of America’s District Executive that serves Mifflin-Juniata Counties to extend a thank you for its Scouting for Food campaign. The family recently moved to the area. Shortly after the move, the family’s breadwinner was laid off from his job and the family was struggling day-to-day to pay for things like groceries. This family was in need of food and stopped by a local food bank that collaborates with Juniata Valley Council, Boy Scouts of America on its Scouting for Food campaign.
The family stopped by on the campaign’s collection day and saw a bunch of Scouts unloading a truckload of non-perishable food items. Through the course of conversation with some Scouts, they were astonished to find out the size and scale of this coordinated effort by our local youth. Cub Scouts, ScoutsBSA and local Venturing to assist local families right here in the Mifflin-Juniata Counties. These individuals are eternally grateful for the work that these Scouts are doing in their communities and were impressed when I told them of their Scout Oath: “On my honor, I will do my best. To do my duty to God and my country, and to obey the Scout Law. To help other people at all times, to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.”
